A major part of my action was writing to my district legislator, David Livingston, in order to tell him my perspective and portray the need to support Hospice care facilities.

Dear Representative Livingston,

Recently, I volunteered at Hospice of the Valley’s Thunderbird Palliative Care Unit, a nonprofit organization that provides hospice and palliative care services to elderly patients across Arizona. This organization focuses on improving the quality of life for individuals facing serious illness by prioritizing comfort, dignity, and emotional support for both patients and their families.

While volunteering, I spoke with many of the staff members and observed the daily operations of the facility. Many individuals who work in hospice care believe that programs like Hospice of the Valley deserve greater funding and policy support to meet the growing demand for services. Limited resources and staffing shortages make it difficult for hospice organizations to expand care or reach all elderly individuals who need these services.

In addition, I learned that many seniors are referred to hospice care later than recommended or are unable to access hospice services at all. Hospice organizations want to expand outreach and services to underserved communities, but they often lack the financial and policy support necessary to do so. Seniors in low-income or underserved areas are especially affected, as they may not have adequate caregiving support at home. Expanding hospice care in these communities would greatly benefit elderly patients and their families.

I respectfully encourage you to consider supporting policies that strengthen funding for hospice and palliative care, improve access to services across Arizona, and raise awareness about the benefits of hospice care. These changes would not only improve the quality of life for seniors but also reduce strain on hospitals and the broader healthcare system.

Thank you for your time and for representing our district. I appreciate your dedication to serving our community and hope to see continued progress in supporting compassionate elderly healthcare in Arizona.

Sincerely,
